Name: Abandoned Building Brewery

Location: Easthampton, MA

History: This tucked away brewery will be celebrating three years of great beers in May. Located in a great, largely abandoned old mill complex, the unassuming exterior of this brewery hides an extremely chill space with warm lighting and 90's music.

Recommended Brews: I tried everything on tap, and was happy to do so. My favorites were the Dirty Girl IPA (great name, better beer), and the big as a Norse god Belgian quad, appropriately named Odin.
While you're in the area: Framingham. Everett. Lowell. Easthampton? You betcha. Based on my trip out this way, Easthampton has as good a concentrated brewery scene as any of the towns I’ve mentioned in previous posts. Within a 90 seconds (literally, I timed it) walk of Abandoned Building is New City Brewery, a nice complement to Abandoned (review forthcoming). They brew a pretty gnarly Ginger Beer and a great Irish Red. Also in Easthampton is Fort Hill Brewery, home to the currently-trending Jigsaw Jazz DIPA. I missed this one on my last trip, but the space looks amazing.

If you're a general stranger to the Berkshires, don't be. This is an area with options for beer-lovers, hikers, foodies, climbers, museum-dabblers, kids and adults alike. Nearby, Northampton and Amherst are college towns with great shops and restaurants (and a few additional breweries, as well). If you want a 'make a day of it' suggestion, I'd recommend starting off at the Eric Carle Museum, then grabbing a slice at Antonio's Pizza (or really expand your gut with a calzone at DP Dough), followed by a trip to the nearby Moan and Dove, a great, down-to-earth beer tavern.
