Name: Navigation Brewing Company

Location: Lowell, MA

History: Navigation just celebrated its three year anniversary in April. Located in the Western Ave Studios Building, Navigation is a great place to grab a beer and check out some local art.

Recommended Brews: I've met PJ Mercier, brewer and one of the chief operators at Navigation, a few times.  Besides being a very cool guy, he has a philosophy about brewing that I can get down with: they are always trying something different, and so should you.  While I was there, I enjoyed two beers: the Parallax Pale, and the Dead Reckoning IPA.

True, I can't provide much insight in the way of range of styles sampled, but I was quite happy with both of my beers, particularly the Dead Reckoning, a tasty Mosaic/Citra hop bomb. Other favorites include their Milk Stout and the NEAP, a Galaxy hopped Pale Ale.

While you're in the area: Navigation shares the respectable Lowell beer scene with a Beer Works and Merrimack Ales, which I featured in an earlier review.  Lowell is also home to some great art galleries and museums, including the Whistler House Museum of Art, and for those so inclined, the New England Quilt Museum.  Art, quilts, and beers. It's called Lowell.
